I grew up in East Texas and passed the hot summer days reading, drawing, watching She-Ra and exploring my grandma’s farm. I doodled constantly through elementary, middle and high school but didn’t think about art as a career until a fateful art history class at The University of Texas at Austin. After transferring from Government to Studio Art, I moved to the east coast and started pursing a career in childrens’ books where I could combine all of my favorite things.
I now live in Northern Virginia with my husband and three kids and am the author/illustrator of several picture books, Maya was Grumpy, Dragons Rule, Princesses Drool, and Fairies Don’t Fight, My most recent is Dinosaur Days (2025, author only, illustrated by Pauline Gregory) I have also co-written and illustrated a picture book with my sister-in-law, Sanyukta Mathur, titled Happy Diwali! and illustrated It’s Holi! which Sanyukta wrote.
I teach classes and workshops online and in-person through Boyds Mills (formally the Highlights Foundation) and SCBWI conferences. I love to create in different mediums of art. I make paper maché and polymer clay figures, ornaments, original acrylic paintings and more. (See shop link above)
