Illustration Friday: "Ancient"
I was into the Greek Myths as a kid, so they were the first thing that popped in my head when I read this week's topic. I couldn't think of anything that really interested me until I looked up some sites and became re-aquainted with the Fates. So here they are, in watercolor (i think i like it) and prisma color.

I love the colors that you used in your illustration. The composition is great also.
The greek myths were (and still are-I teach them every year) my favorites, too! I really like how you interpreted them as everyday grannies, rather than old crones. Great color flow also. :)
i like the composition as well.
not familiar with the greek myth behind it though, care to educate us? :)
cheers,
beth
There are three Fates. Clotho, the spinner, who spins the thread of life. Lachesis, the measurer, who choses the lot in life one will have and measures off how long it is to be. Atropos, she who can not be turned, who at death with her shears cuts the tread of life.
The Fates are old and predate the gods. It is not entirely clear how far their power extends. It is possible that they determine the fate of the gods as well. In any case, not even the most powerful is willing to triffle with them.
This is the quote I gound at http://www.greekmythology.com/Other_Gods/The_Fates/the_fates.html, couldn't have put it better myself.
Thanks for the comments :)
Love it, the color, the story everything. Prisma? You mean the art markers? I use them too. Aren't they wonderful.
Janey - actually it's the colored pencils, but i've always wanted to try the markers.
this is lovely, the colors practically glow...how wonderful.
