Illustration Friday "Float"

Caught up in the moment, Annabelle confused floating leaves for falling snowflakes.

Ok... not really on topics with "float" but it's getting to be Fall on the East Coast...hurray!!!

(not really happy with this one, maybe I'll re-do it and change the perspective)

Speaking of Fall -- don't forget to post an entry for the Halloween Caption Contest, you could win a free print from my shop.

Whattayakiddinme?! Be happy! The linework in the leaves is especially cool. Be proud; it's a solid piece.

That girl is weird ... they don't even look like snowflakes };-} The perspective is good, it makes you feel like you're amongst the leaves - the leaves are exciting colours :)

What a strange girl. Nice illo--great colors. I also like the apparent movement of the leaves.

I think it's great - the contrasting colours are beautiful and the linework very expressive. I thought of autumn leaves too for float - I say it fits!

I love the warms, crispy colors of the leaves against the blue sky! It's also really funny...as if she's trying to catch a snowflake on her tongue, but it's really a leaf. I like it just the way it is!

Another winner! I like how the watercolor around the leaves creates a kind of echo line. I like the woman on the right, but I think the kid on the left could be made to stand out more. I'm not criticizing-just trying to find out what could help you. Maybe the scarf? Other than that, it's great! Oh, and I'm wracking my brains for that contest...I got nothin'!

Thanks for the comments, I feel better about this one and have added it to my portfolio. I love fall and am going to try and work in as many orange-y blue color combos as I can. :)

Dee - "critiques" are always welcome, especially when they are so nicely put. ;) Reminds me of a critique I received at UT where the teacher (and student teacher, she and I never meshed) apoligized to the other students, saying she wouldn't be as harsh with them. Plus, I think you're right about something for the girl, maybe stronger lines around her face or more color.

Corrine - I use watercolor and then fill in the lines with an ink pen.

It's got a charlie-brownish feel. Maybe you could make her head bigger. I like big heads!

Funny as always. I like the look of the leaves. If you're going to redo it maybe the leaves closest to us could be even bigger?

That is just so darn adorable. Just pure delight!! Such a funny concept of catching leaves on her tongue!!! I always love your work so much! The characters are so loveable! Makes me think of when I was a child moving to a different school in the middle of 4th grade and I noticed that all the beautiful kids in my class lacked in personality and all the more homely ones were so loveable like your characters!
