Illustration Friday "Surprise"

While adding new images to my shop, I came across this illustration. I created it for SCBWI's contest about returning to school. I thought it worked well for surprise. (hint: look at the backpack :>)

I might create another one later this week, stay tuned.

Hey, did you see the results of the last contest? Bleah. That's all I gotta say. I think I might try for this next one. I need a Santa Claus in my portfolio. :)

Really love your work! Can't wait to see what comes next week!

What SCBWI contest are you referring to? I've been a member for years, but have kind of lost touch the last few (probably since they started that art auction thing at the Mid-Winter conference - but that's another long story).

Wow! You know, that actually happened many years ago to one of my students while I was teaching class. Some kid ran past the door and hurled a dissection frog into my room...and it landed right into a boy's open backpack! The boy was so angry - he just jumped out of his seat and ran after the kid. I couldn't stop him becuase I was laughing too hard! Great illustration! Thanks for the memory too:>

The little girl with her ponytail stickin' straight up ... she's adorable!! (her hair looks surprised, too!!)

I love those homes, as well. I can see a face in the middle home... but that's just me seein' faces in everything.

Nice work as always!

Thanks for all of the lovely comments. I really want to do a new one but unless an idea comes screaming into my head, this will have to do.

Carla - yuck but in a funny gross way

M.B. - SCBWI has a(somewhat) monthly contests for illustrators, you'll see the link on the front page. This one was for old school, new year.

Tony - that is super sweet, i love your photo collages and look forward to your new drawings too.

catnapping - i see faces everywhere too. ;)

dee - don't think i can take anymore rejection so i doubt i'll enter another contest for a bit. ;)
