Trimming the Tree

I'm not a big crafty person. I want to be, I can get lost in the aisles of a craft store anyday. I adore Lobbyloo and Wee Wonderfuls and dream of making softies, pillows and even clothes. The truth is that I just usually run out of steam. I always forget a key ingredient or get interested in something else and forget the original project. The ornament above is an inspiration of my sister-in-law. She got the idea from some ornaments at Pier One. They reminded her of dolls she made in India when she was little where the dresses were crafted from Styrofoam balls, sequins and pins.

Above is my creation, the white shines off the tree when it's dark so you don't totally lose the ornament. I think they're really great and each person created their own design. If I can find new batteries for my camera, I will show you the other cool creations of my sister-in-law, her husband and my hubby. It was really fun to just chill out and create this simple ornament. Hurray for my sister-in-law and hurray for crafts.

Maybe I'll finally get around to painting the 25 wooden ornaments I purchased last year.

That's a fun idea. You could each make one every year - there will soon be quite a collection, with many memories to match!

We're in the same boat. I've tried 2 different crafts so far for Xmas and haven't been able to complete due to technical difficulties. I love your ornament - don't you feel accomplished? I could see a whole tree of these!

I like your ornament... !
In the 50's my mom decorated our house for a Christmas "house tour." She wasn't a pro... just willing, I think. She made "sputnik" ornaments of styrofoam, colored teriyaki type skewers and little glass beads or balls that she threaded on the skewers or pinned onto the balls. Then she hung them with ribbons in front of my dressing table mirror. I thought I had a whole galaxy in my room.
I didn't much care for having to keep everything "perfectly neat" for two weekends though!

I used to make ornaments for the tree.. I "wasted" whole mornings when I should have been doing something else(like cleaning:)... now a thousand years later when they come out of the box, they are old friends that whisper tales of christmas past, of small children and light and music that we have shared. Those old ornaments and I.
Now you have inspired me to make some for this year..... Thank you!
