Inspiration
Feeling a bit low here lately. I just want to crack out an amazing piece. A wizz-bang, I can do this, one day I will succeed piece. I just have to ride it out, as usual. Keep creating and listen, listen and look for that doodle that makes me smile and want to create a final piece this very instant.
It might have something to do with the weather. Grey , sticky and hot. We were without power for 25 hours. In July no less. It does make one very grateful for electricity and the things it brings like air conditioning, refrigiration and artificial light.
Here are two artists who make me smile. Polly Dunbar (just discovered her through a book I got for the Pud at the library titled Down the Back of the Chair.) and Meghan McCarthy who is not only a talented illustrator but a very kind person.

I think it's the heat, Courtney. I, too, was totally uninspired yesterday, which was hot and sticky (for Montreal). I noticed I perked up when I walked over to the local market (which had AC going). What a time to have your electricity go out! Poor girl!
eesh! no electricity! It's been muggy and rainy this week for us too.
I've also been stuck creatively, and am so grateful I have a project where other people are depending on me. Otherwise, I would wallow. You know what might help? I bought a canvas from the craft store (a cheapy really) and decided that no matter what, I was going to paint something on it for my studio. I took all the pressure off. It could be outside "my normal style", it could be imperfect, it could even be ugly. The point was, I had to paint. So, I played a favorite cd, closed my eyes and watched the images flitting across my mind. When the cd was done, I picked my favorite image and put it to canvas. I can tell you, just waving that big old brush around, splattering paint everywhere, felt great. Try it! Think of it as a muscle stretching exercise.
Hang in there, Courtney. You're way talented.
Oh, and thanks for those fantastic links. I've bookmarked them for inspiration!
Thanks for the links, Courtney. I'm sorry to hear of your "barbecue" up north. Did you all live in the basement for the day?
Do you think your lull has to do with your new space? Maybe we need to decorate your new studio so you feel more inspired....yes?
Keep plugging away. You have such a unique "voice" and it will be recognized, I just know it.
