from the sketchbook

I haven't had much time to create any finished illos lately. We've been shuttling between Huntsville and San Antonio. My sister moved into her house on Friday so we came down to help her unpack and get settled. This is a heavy chore as we go through and separate mike's clothes and put things aside to be dealt with later. She has several lovely things given to her from the coast guard to commemorate his service that will be displayed. Honestly, it is just so damn sad to open a box filled with clothes that he will never wear again. She is strong and taking things day by day and has an inner strength that I pray will carry her into a hopeful future.
Anyway, the current mood is reflected in my sketchbook but I am glad to see that my inner goofiness is present even if I can't see it.

So happy to see a post from you even though it was a bit sad. I know this has been a hard time for you and your family, but even those times can be wonderful in the sense you have an opportunity to be supportive for those you love. When my kids lost their dad a few years ago, it built bonds that give us all strength today. We are even tighter as a family. Your caring for your sister is very special.

Courtney,
I love your work. Hope you have a special Christmas and have some down time to rest and enjoy the season with your daughter and husband, even in the midst of the sorrow. I'm so sorry to hear about all you are going through. I'm praying for your sister and family. It's such a hard time to be going through so much. What a gift for you to be there for your sister.
on an art sideline....you should check out Thumbtack press (think it's thumbtackpress.com) and sub your work to them. I think you might be a fit with them. I think they may be closed to subs, but sub anyway..to have your work in their mind's eye when they open back up for artists to be repped by them in their giclees/prints.

I love visiting your blog and seeing what new things have popped from your imagination and into that wonderful sketchbook of yours.

Heya Courtney. To see your sister dealing with her loss with such strength is encouraging. I am glad for her that you are there to help her out. (Oh, and I know the drive from Huntsville to S.A. is not a fun one.) Glad to see that you are still creating. And remember, not all art has to be happy-faced.

(If you ever want to get together over the holidays, let me know. Christmas Break is coming up, and I'll be in S.A. at one time or another over the holiday.)
