Re-do of a re-do

Have you ever had a painting you really liked in your head but couldn't get it down on paper? I usually just do a rough sketch and then go straight to painting and drawing but something always looked wrong with this painting. So, I tried one last time. (per paula's suggestion)

A re-cap:

Original Sketch:
>
(might still be my favorite)

First Color Image:

(didn't like the color pattern of her dress and it just seemed off)

Second Color Image:

(tried to add a little girl snd had a bad drawing day)

Final (I hope):

What an interesting series!

What I really, really like about the original sketch is the layout. That arch created by the dog and the inner line of her body. And then that so-interesting triangle at the lower right of the page, made up of ascending shapes of the cat, the legs, the triangle of the snout and the last animal. And the weight and shape of the print dress carries it all. I think those things need to be preserved.

Who the heck am I? Well, nobody really. But I have enjoyed reading your blog posts for a long time. I love your sense of color, and your characters.

The peeking pig in the corner is so cool. I really like your final image alot. But for some reason I like the glasses in the first image. Go figure!

That was very interesting to see. I have images in my head that look nothing like that once I get them down on paper!

I loved the dress in the first colour picture but I love your final version. The little chicken looking up at the old lady and the cat wrapped around her ankle are perfect, I just love the cat!

... but I liked the little girl... it was like the old lady was telling her to put the chicked back where she found it, and it was like the cat was saying "I know just how that chicken feels". Maybe I was reading too much into it because I loved chickens and would carry them around when I was a kid.
Loved the dogs in the original drawing.... but the pig in the corner is great in the last one, and the upitty duck in the one with the girl.
I really loved seeing the different versions of this one.
